6 Design Tips for Small Bathrooms

Are you ready to throw in the towel with your small bathroom design? Here are six small bathroom design tips to help you live large, with limited space.

Bathe Without Borders

Freestanding baths are all the rage right now. They’re luxe, modern, and feel a bit expensive. You might think you don’t have the room for a freestanding bath, but you could be wrong! Often freestanding baths won’t take up any extra room (when compared to their built-in counterparts). In fact, they might even save you space. If you think about it, a built-in bathtub with a surround takes up extra space around the bath. Plus, built-in tubs can often make a bathroom feel a little ‘blocked-off’.

Slide Over Swing

Half the battle of designing a small bathroom is accounting for the door swing. Generally, a bathroom door should swing inwards, encroaching on valuable (and limited!) space. So, eliminate the need to accommodate, by choosing a sliding pocket door instead. Or, if you want to get really fancy, why not give a statement barn door a go?

Find a Niche

Why take up precious floor space when you could get a niche! Recessed shelving and storage is on-trend and also practical. Pop a niche above your toilet, above your sink, or in the shower. Or, if for any reason you can’t have a niche, give vertical storage a go with a ladder shelf or rack. Either way, avoid cluttering the floor at all costs!

Be Transparent

If you’re including a shower in your small bathroom, this tip is for you. Pick a completely transparent shower screen. No frosting, no thick frame, just glass. Why? Because borderless glass allows the eye to travel through the shower, removing barriers, and giving your small bathroom a bigger appearance. In fact, if you want to go all out, opt for a curbless, half screen shower.

Be Reflective

Simple, decorative bathroom mirrors are a definite vibe in 2022. However—for your small bathroom, you might want to think a little bigger. The bigger the mirror, the more light travelling through and around your bathroom. Plus, large, square mirrors help widen or deepen a room immensely.

Insist on a Concealed Cistern

Toilets with hidden cisterns certainly look better, but they also save on space, too. They’re more compact, take up less floor space, and are easier to clean around; it’s a win-win!
